"Crash lock" is more common among corrugated and e-commerce suppliers. "Pop-up box" is another name you'll sometimes see. If you're getting quotes from multiple suppliers, use both terms to make sure you're comparing like for like.

Most standard auto bottom boxes made from cardboard handle products up to around 1kg comfortably. For anything heavier, you need a full flap auto bottom (where the base panels cover the entire floor rather than half) or a corrugated version. The glued base is genuinely stronger than a taped standard box the failure point is usually the side walls, not the base itself.

If your product is liquid, leaks, or produces condensation, auto bottom boxes aren't the right choice the glued base can weaken with moisture exposure. They're also not ideal for extremely heavy products over 2–3kg unless you're using a reinforced corrugated version.
